The 18-year-old Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar represented India in 2016 U-19 World Cup. He was unsold during the 2017 Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions. He made his debut in IPL when recruited as an injury replacement to R Ashwin.
Washington Sundar picked eight wickets in 11 matches with an average of 23.12 that he played for Rising Pune Supergiants last year. He also had a bowling economy of decent 6.16. In the qualifier match against Mumbai Indians, Sundar picked three wickets for just 16 runs with an economy of 4.0. It was nothing less than achievement when he pulled the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard and Ambati Rayudu at such a young age. The player of the match helped his side to reach the final.
After IPL, Washington Sundar performed well with both bat and ball in Tamil Nadu Premier League. Washington Sundar made his ODI debut last year after he was picked as a replacement for the injured Kedhar Jadhav. He played against Sri Lanka in the second ODI and took a wicket in 10 overs. Washington Sundar also made his T20 debut against Sri Lanka. He has so far played 26 matches picking 29 wickets with an economy of 6.30. He was recently declared as Man of the Series in Nidahas Twenty20 Tri-Series where he picked eight wickets in just five matches.
The youngster started his career as a batsman and now established himself as an off-spinner. In First Class cricket, Washington Sundar has played 12 matches and taken 30 wickets with an economy rate of 2.78. He has the best bowling figure of 6/87. As a batsman, Washington Sundar has scored 532 runs with an average of 31.29 and had the highest score of 159.
This year in 2018, Royal Challengers Bangalore team bought Washington Sundar for 3.2 Cr after winning the bid against Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians.
