Heading into IPL 2021, Rajasthan Royals have made few shocking changes to their squad. They might be cursing themselves for releasing Ajinkya Rahane last season.

Right from the players to coaches, they are seeking a combination of both young and experienced teammates. The same thinking was reflected in their decision when they released the legendary Steve Smith and also, handed an important position to Kumar Sangakkara.

Analysis of released players from the squad:

1. Steve Smith

It has happened only for the 5th time that management decided to release their captain. To some extent, it was an expected and logical decision as Smith’s performance in Twenty20 on Asian Soil was not up to the mark. He started well in IPL 2020, but he turned down his fortunes by choosing to move down the order.

2. Tom Curran

This was a shocking decision as he was an ideal replacement of Ben Stokes (in case of his injury). Tom brings a lot of power down the order and also capable of completing his bowling quota of four overs.

3. Oshane Thomas

Oshane wasn’t given enough chances to play in IPL and might have done wonders for his team along with Jofra Archer.

4. Robin Uthappa

Traded to CSK this year; Royals didn’t provide him enough chances to build his confidence in IPL 2020. Rajasthan Royals traded him to Old Lions Club (CSK) where he might have to deliver under pressure for next two seasons to prove his capabilities.

Analysis of retained players in the squad:

  1. Jaydev Unadkat

Jaydev hasn’t proved himself worth the IPL money since multiple seasons and was one of the predicted players expected to be released. But the management thought the other way.

The management might have retained him by looking at his potential in domestic season. We are hopeful that this might be the season for Jaydev Unadkat.

  1. David Miller

Miller wasn’t given any chances in the last season. But this season, we might see David Miller as a permanent middle-order batsman. This year might be a do or die season for him in his IPL career.

Players to target in 2021 IPL Auction

Royals should be looking forward to target:

Indian Fast Bowlers:

  1. Umesh Yadav
  2. S. Sreesanth
  3. Lukman Meriwala

Foreign Fast Bowlers:

  1. James Pattinson
  2. Nathan Coulter Nile

Indian Batsmen:

  1. Karun Nair
  2. Siddhesh Lad

Foreign Batsmen:

  1.    Alex Carey

Indian All Rounders:

  1. Shivam Dube

Foreign All Rounders:

  1. Chris Morris
  2. Moeen Ali
  3. James Neesham
  4. Fabian Allen
  5. Glenn Maxwell

Royals would be glad if they manage to buy at least three players from the above lot. These players will add the required strength and depth to their depleted side.

Our Playing 11 with Retained Players:

 Manan Vohra

Jos Buttler

Sanju Samson

Ben Stokes

Riyan Parag

David Miller

Rahul Tewatia

Jofra Archer

Mayank Markande

Jaydev Unadkat

Kartik Tyagi

The dominance of Australian cricket team lasted for almost twelve years until they were beaten by the Indian cricket team led by Dhoni in the World Cup semi-final. The fans remember the Australian team not only for their excellence in batting, bowling and fielding but also for their great leadership and management. It was not just their on-field performance but also their confidence off the field that helped the team to push the pressure towards the opponents. Their mind games tactics especially sledging was one of the mechanisms used to show their dominance in the game of cricket.

Things have changed a lot in cricket; the arrival of Twenty 20 changed the approach and temperament to play cricket. The Indian team has progressed a lot and moved up from there. The Indian Premier League played an important role to filter the best young talent of the country and were given the opportunity by the selectors to perform at international level. It also helped them to perform in pressure and in building a strong mindset to play multiple matches without getting tired.

Similarly, Australia has Big Bash League with a similar format as Indian Premier League. However, it hasn’t helped Australia to groom their youngsters to that extent as it did with India. The Indian team has a long list of options available to choose their openers, wicket keepers, middle-order etc. whereas Australia lacks the quality options with them. They are highly dependent on Steve Smith, David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne in batting.

The temperament of the Australians has also changed after the sandpaper gate. The competitiveness and the confidence that they demonstrated earlier has also been affected. Though in Test, the team still stays at number one position in the ICC ranking. There is a lot to improve in ODI and Twenty 20 formats.

How difficult it is for every non-Mumbai Indians fan to watch Indian Premier League final every year without grief and without raising a question if IPL is indeed fixed?

In the past 8 years, Mumbai Indians has won the IPL title 5 times when the winning probability of every team is 1/8. Of course, this team is the best team on paper but isn’t Twenty-20 format the most unpredictable format of cricket? We know that mostly the best team wins in a test or a fifty over format but the chances are less in a Twenty-20 format in which a single delivery can change the outcome of a game. So why it is that every time Mumbai Indians emerges as victorious?

This year, the path was easy as the Mumbai Indians performed exceptionally well and remained at top throughout the tournament but that is not the case every year. In past, the team has struggled to reach to the top 4 but still ended up winning the tournament coming from nowhere!

We can’t forget the last year’s final, a closed neck to neck game with Chennai Super Kings which CSK lost due to an erroneous third umpire decision that took the wicket of MS Dhoni by a run-out which was not out as per the viewers who saw the replay from the television screen. Many such games have favoured the Mumbai Indians team more often than any other Indian Premier League franchise.

The team Mumbai Indians has so far won 5*200 million (1000 million) as the prize money which is quite less as compared to their investment in this league. The brand value of Mumbai Indians in 2019 was estimated to be of 8090 million which is huge as compared to their return of investment. So, we are hopeful to see more IPL Trophies coming to the Mumbai Indians franchise in future IPL finals otherwise why would a team spend so much when the return of their investment is not worthy enough?

This is the third match in a row to be played at Southampton in this tournament. We have seen an incredible series so far in which Moeen Ali is still wicketless, Jason Roy is yet to fire and Chris Campher yet to fail.

Team Preview

England:

Liam Livingstone’s debut appears to be on the cards. We are hoping that either of Banton or Vince will be playing. As England is keen to promote young talent, Banton has high chances to bat at Number three position. David Willey might be rested and replaced with Tom Curran.

Expected XI

1) Jason Roy
2) Jonny Bairstow (WK)
3) Tom Banton / James Vince
4) Liam Livingstone ( Bat + Off Spin)
5) Sam Billings

8) Adil Rashid (Leg Spin)
9) Tom Curran (Medium Pace)
10) Saqib Mahmood (Medium Pace)
11) Reece Topley (Medium Pace)

Ireland:

With experienced players in their squad, Ireland has their greatest chance to upset England by a win. Ireland might play an extra batsman as their two All-rounders, Delany and Kevin bats up the order. Ireland might or might not go with Potterfield. They are surely looking ahead of Potterfield who had not paid off. They would love to bring back Potterfield and Gary Wilson to increase their batting depth. Craig Young is expected to be replaced by Mark Adair (if fit) or Tyrone Kane.

Expected 11

1) Paul Stirling
2) Gareth Delany
3) Andrew Balbirnie (C)
4) William Potterfield / Harry Tector
5) Kevin O Brien
6) Lorcan Tucker / Gary Wilson

Bowlers
1) Reece Topley
2) Saqib Mahmood

For Dream 11, you can make a couple of changes. Replace Eoin Morgan with Delany and Saqib Mahmood with Joshua Little.

England Vs West Indies

Test Match 3

Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester

For the first time in the history of English Cricket, two consecutive Test matches will be played on the same ground.

Pitch Report

Since 2002, the Old Trafford has proved to be a batting paradise for the home team (England). Not just for English batsman, but even the bowlers have used their home condition to their best potential. Records England’s winning streak on this ground since 2002 was put on a hold by the mighty Australians last year. Since 2002, England had won 9 out of 13 matches with 2 draws and two ending as a losing side.

Team Preview

England: England will be keen to bring back their trio James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Jofra Archer. It will be the first time that these three pace attackers will play together. It will be interesting to see how they perform. We are expecting Jofra Archer to step up and become a key bowler to watch forward. Ben Stokes could have been rested if England had won 2 out of their 2 test matches. With series on stake, England is expected to play with their full-strength team.

Expected XI

1) Rory Burns

2) Dominic Sibly

3) Joe Denly / Zak Crawley

5) Ben Stokes (C)

6) Ollie Pope

7) Jos Buttler (WK)

8) Dominic Bess

9) Jofra Archer

West Indies: The West Indies team will again be depending on their bowling department. The team’s batting appears to be weak in front of the experienced England batsmen. A likely replacement for out of form Alzaari Joseph is Raymon Reifer. Shai Hope and John Campbell are yet to show their true colours. We are expecting them to fire in this match.

England Vs West Indies

Test Match 2

Date: 16 July, 2020

Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester

One of the most beautiful places to play cricket in England is Old Trafford, Manchester.

Since 2002, England had won 9 out of 12 matches with 2 draws and one ending as a losing side.

Team Preview

England: England will be keen to bring back their experienced Stuart Broad and leaving out Mark Wood will be an ideal option. If England bowls first, all the three pacers (Anderson, Broad and Archer) will be their key bowlers. However, there is a possibility that Archer would be more troublemaker for the West Indies squad as they surely would be better prepared against the duo of Anderson and Broad. Joe Root will be back and bat at number four position. Joe Denly must need to pull up his socks as there is a high possibility of him getting replaced soon.

Expected XI

1) Rory Burns

2) Dominic Sibly

3) Joe Denly / Zak Crawley

4) Joe Root

5) Ben Stokes (C)

6) Ollie Pope

7) Jos Buttler (WK)

8) Dominic Bess

9) Jofra Archer

10) Stuart Broad

11) James Anderson

West Indies: The West Indies team will again be depending on their bowling department. The team’s batting appears to be weak in front of the experienced England batsmen. Kemar Roach who was off-colour in the first test might be dangerous on this ground. We expect Roach to get Burns wicket early in both the innings. Alzaari Joseph would be crucial on this wicket. Overall, we are expecting the test match to end in a draw.

Expected XI

1) Kraigg Braithwaite

2) John Campbell

3) Shai Hope

4) Shamarh Brooks

5) Roston Chase

6) Jermaine Blackwood / Nkrumah Bonner

7) Shane Dowrich (WK)

1. What’s better than a daily exercise and meditation schedule to start your day. It’s very important to stay fit no matter what the situation is and if not gym, you can still watch fitness videos of your favourite celebrity or sportsperson and can follow their fitness regime.

2. Enjoy the live Instagram, Facebook or Twitter videos of your favourite sports personalities. These days, the Sportspeople are interacting with their fans, their fellow players and giving interviews online which are being broadcasted live on social media. This is a great platform to interact with the players and ask them queries to enhance your sports-related skills. We recently saw the Nadal and Federer broadcast video on Facebook, AB De Villiers and Virat Kohli’s live video on Instagram and many interviews of domestic cricketers and other sports personalities happening on the Sports channels, IPL teams’ pages, Sports website pages etc.

3. Watch the TikTok videos of your favourite sports player. We know that this might sound lame especially for those who don’t use this app. However, if you come across David Warner’s TikTok videos on Instagram, they are a treat to watch! Also, Chahal’s videos are going viral all over the internet and receiving enormous reviews.

4. Watch the Insta stories/videos of sportspeople while they are training hard at home, playing with their kids, cooking new recipes etc. A true fan would like to catch up and know what are their favourite players up to!

5. Watch the Test on Amazon Prime video which will give you a close insight of the Australian cricket team journey right from the Sandpaper gate to the Ashes 2019. As a sports fan, you would witness the struggle of the coaches, management and players during a difficult period.

6. Last but the most important one, watch the old matches and highlights on Hotstar and Youtube and revive the old memories 🙂
