Heading into IPL 2021, Rajasthan Royals have made few shocking changes to their squad. They might be cursing themselves for releasing Ajinkya Rahane last season.

Right from the players to coaches, they are seeking a combination of both young and experienced teammates. The same thinking was reflected in their decision when they released the legendary Steve Smith and also, handed an important position to Kumar Sangakkara.

Analysis of released players from the squad:

1. Steve Smith

It has happened only for the 5th time that management decided to release their captain. To some extent, it was an expected and logical decision as Smith’s performance in Twenty20 on Asian Soil was not up to the mark. He started well in IPL 2020, but he turned down his fortunes by choosing to move down the order.

2. Tom Curran

This was a shocking decision as he was an ideal replacement of Ben Stokes (in case of his injury). Tom brings a lot of power down the order and also capable of completing his bowling quota of four overs.

3. Oshane Thomas

Oshane wasn’t given enough chances to play in IPL and might have done wonders for his team along with Jofra Archer.

4. Robin Uthappa

Traded to CSK this year; Royals didn’t provide him enough chances to build his confidence in IPL 2020. Rajasthan Royals traded him to Old Lions Club (CSK) where he might have to deliver under pressure for next two seasons to prove his capabilities.

Analysis of retained players in the squad:

  1. Jaydev Unadkat

Jaydev hasn’t proved himself worth the IPL money since multiple seasons and was one of the predicted players expected to be released. But the management thought the other way.

The management might have retained him by looking at his potential in domestic season. We are hopeful that this might be the season for Jaydev Unadkat.

  1. David Miller

Miller wasn’t given any chances in the last season. But this season, we might see David Miller as a permanent middle-order batsman. This year might be a do or die season for him in his IPL career.

Players to target in 2021 IPL Auction

Royals should be looking forward to target:

Indian Fast Bowlers:

  1. Umesh Yadav
  2. S. Sreesanth
  3. Lukman Meriwala

Foreign Fast Bowlers:

  1. James Pattinson
  2. Nathan Coulter Nile

Indian Batsmen:

  1. Karun Nair
  2. Siddhesh Lad

Foreign Batsmen:

  1.    Alex Carey

Indian All Rounders:

  1. Shivam Dube

Foreign All Rounders:

  1. Chris Morris
  2. Moeen Ali
  3. James Neesham
  4. Fabian Allen
  5. Glenn Maxwell

Royals would be glad if they manage to buy at least three players from the above lot. These players will add the required strength and depth to their depleted side.

Our Playing 11 with Retained Players:

 Manan Vohra

Jos Buttler

Sanju Samson

Ben Stokes

Riyan Parag

David Miller

Rahul Tewatia

Jofra Archer

Mayank Markande

Jaydev Unadkat

Kartik Tyagi

The dominance of Australian cricket team lasted for almost twelve years until they were beaten by the Indian cricket team led by Dhoni in the World Cup semi-final. The fans remember the Australian team not only for their excellence in batting, bowling and fielding but also for their great leadership and management. It was not just their on-field performance but also their confidence off the field that helped the team to push the pressure towards the opponents. Their mind games tactics especially sledging was one of the mechanisms used to show their dominance in the game of cricket.

Things have changed a lot in cricket; the arrival of Twenty 20 changed the approach and temperament to play cricket. The Indian team has progressed a lot and moved up from there. The Indian Premier League played an important role to filter the best young talent of the country and were given the opportunity by the selectors to perform at international level. It also helped them to perform in pressure and in building a strong mindset to play multiple matches without getting tired.

Similarly, Australia has Big Bash League with a similar format as Indian Premier League. However, it hasn’t helped Australia to groom their youngsters to that extent as it did with India. The Indian team has a long list of options available to choose their openers, wicket keepers, middle-order etc. whereas Australia lacks the quality options with them. They are highly dependent on Steve Smith, David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne in batting.

The temperament of the Australians has also changed after the sandpaper gate. The competitiveness and the confidence that they demonstrated earlier has also been affected. Though in Test, the team still stays at number one position in the ICC ranking. There is a lot to improve in ODI and Twenty 20 formats.

Rajasthan Royals, the winner of that era when teams were still figuring out the strategies and tactics to progress in the format of T20 cricket. During those days of T20 Cricket, a team having 160 runs to defend was considered as favourites. With the change in time, now the IPL teams are more developed and familiar with T20 format. During the time, there has also been a shift in fortune for Rajasthan Royals as well. From being the winner of season 1 to a team who finds it difficult to make into playoffs. Surely, there is something that went wrong especially with a settled team combination.

Let us get into the analysis of Rajasthan Royals and figure out the right team combination to survive the competition.

22. Shubham Ranjane

23. Manan Vohra

24. Ashton Turner

25. Riyan Parag

Assuming that all the above players are available for 1st Leg of Indian Premier League.

Rajasthan Royals will play four matches in the 1st leg of Indian Premier League. It will be hard for them to choose a team of 11 players out of 25 contenders. We will try to figure out the best 11 according to the playing conditions and recent form of the players.

Recommended Team for Home Game (Jaipur)

1. Jos Butler (Foreign)

3. Ajinkya Rahane ©

4. Sanju Samson (WK)

5. Ben Stokes (Foreign)

6. Mahipal Lomror

7. Krishnappa Gowtham

8. Shreyas Gopal

9. Jaydev Unadkat

10. Varun Aaron

11. Oshane Thomas (Foreign)

Notes:

-Use Oshane Thomas after 6 overs.

-Picked Oshane Thomas over Jofra Archer.

-No Steve Smith in team -Rahane at No 3 due to the top form of English openers.

-No Kulkarni as Jaydev is there for variations.

Recommended Team for Away games (Hyderabad)

Fresh Hyderabad wicket is expected to be in favor of bowlers with the ratio of 51:49

1. Jos Butler

2. Ajinkya Rahane ©

3. Steve Smith

4. Sanju Samson

5. Ben Stokes

6. Mahipal Lomror

7. Krishnappa Gowtham

8. Jofra Archer

9. Shreyas Gopal

10. Dhawal Kulkarni

11. Jaydev Unadkat

Notes:

-Smith over Liam Livingstone because experience is given preference over aggression in these conditions.

-Jofra over Thomas because bowler having experience must be preferred on this wicket.

-Kulkarni preferred over Aaron.

Recommended Team for Away Game (Chennai)

As we are in Lions (MSD) Den we must be very careful with our tactics and strategies.

1. Ajinkya Rahane

2. Sanju Samson

3. Jos Butler

4. Steve Smith

5. Ben Stokes

6. Rahul Tripathi

7. Riyan Parag

8. Jofra Archer

9. Krishnappa Gowtham

10. Dhawal Kulkarni

11. Jaydev Unadkat

Notes:

-This combination is preferred as we need more depth in batting and bowling at Chepauk.

-Riyan Parag will play as an all-rounder.

-Sanju Samson to open due to his experience in Southern pitches.

Note: We would prefer Ish Sodhi over Oshane Thomas at home if it is an Afternoon game.

That is all. If you want to give any suggestions or share us your combination, please comment below. You can also reach at our Twitter handle to share your teams.

Some records inspire us, and there are those that we wish to break; the same is with cricket. However, there are some cricket records, which embarrass the players and no one would be interested in breaking them. Let us look at those records that cricketers want to forget soon.

The chief intention of a batsman is to hit every bowl bowled to them in the fastest format of cricket, Twenty20. And also to score decent runs for their team. What would you call a cricketer who has most ducks in his T20I career? T Dilshan from Sri Lanka has played 80 matches in his career with ten ducks. This is the most by any player, followed by former England cricketer Luke Wright. In his Twenty20 career, he has played 51 matches with nine ducks.

Who is the bowler that has the worst bowling economy rate in Twenty20 International? Andre Russell from West Indies has a bowling economy rate of 9.24 in 43 matches. He has so far bowled around 85 overs. Thisara Perera from Sri Lanka is not much far behind Russell who has a bowling economy rate of 9.03. He has bowled 155 overs in 68 matches.
When we talk about the worst economy rate in a particular inning, three bowlers collectedly ranked one, who have given 41 runs each in their two overs that they bowled. R Ashwin from India, Mark Watt from Scotland and Jeffrey Vanderay from Sri Lanka bowled with an economy of 20.50 against Australia, Afghanistan and New Zealand respectively.

As a wicketkeeper, Mark Boucher conceded 15 runs in byes against West Indies in 2008. This is the most by any wicketkeeper in a T20 match. An extra in a Twenty20 game is considered as a curse. The bowler only intention is to complete their overs early, without giving runs to the batsman. The match played between South Africa and West Indies in 2007 had the most number of extras in a T20 game. There were 413 runs scored by both the teams in the whole match. 45 extras were bowled including 35 wide balls, two no balls and eight leg byes.

The interesting fact here is that the bowler who has the worst bowling economy rate in T20I is Andre Russell. He also has the highest batting strike rate in the Indian Premier League. In 34 matches that he has played for Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders, he has scored 574 runs with a strike rate of 173.41.
