After losing three consecutive matches in IPL, Rajasthan Royals made three changes to bring back their team to winning track. Since the game against Kings XI Punjab was Rajasthan Royals last chance to stay in IPL tournament, they brought Ish Sodhi, leg-spinner from New Zealand by replacing Australian batsman D'Arcy Short.

Ish Sodhi who failed to attract any bids in IPL 2018 auction, was signed by Rajasthan Royals as an injury replacement to Afghanistan international Zahir Khan. Sodhi was picked up at his base price of INR 50 lakh. He reached the number one ranking for T20I bowlers in January 2018 and currently at number four position just after Rashid Khan, Shadab Khan and Yuzvendra Chahal.

On his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals, against Kings XI Punjab in Jaipur, Ish Sodhi impressed everyone with his phenomenal bowling. The Punjab bowlers failed to understand his bowling, and that was visible from the first ball that he delivered. In his four overs, he gave just 14 runs and took one wicket that brought Rajasthan Royals back on track after scoring a not-so-impressive 158 runs in their 20 overs.

Overall, Sodhi has picked up 102 wickets in 92 T20s at an average of 23.09 and economy of 7.66.

Rashid Khan- The bowling sensation in IPL 2018

Rashid Khan, the Afghanistan cricketer made his IPL debut in 2017 Indian Premier League for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He finished the tournament by becoming the sixth-highest wicket-taker and took 17 wickets from 14 matches. In January 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named him as the Associate Cricketer of the Year. This year in February, he became the youngest player to top the ICC Player Rankings for bowlers in ODIs. Along with this, he also topped the ICC Player Rankings for bowlers in T20Is.

During the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier, he captained Afghanistan for the first time in an ODI match. And he became the youngest player to captain an international side. Rashid Khan became the youngest bowler to take fastest 100 wickets in ODIs during the final of Cricket World Cup Qualifier against the West Indies. He accomplished this record by playing in just 44 matches to take his 100th dismissal and broke the previous record of 52 games, set by Mitchell Starc.

In IPL auction 2018, Sunrisers Hyderabad used right to match to retain Rashid Khan when he was sold to Kings XI Punjab at a price of nine crores. He has so far taken nine wickets in just seven IPL matches and ranked behind Trent Boult and Mayank Markande who have 11 and ten wickets respectively. In a Twenty20 format that is mainly dominated by hard-hitting batsmen, Rashid Khan has bowled 72 dot balls in 28 overs with an economy of 7.17.

Former Australian batsman Dean Jones has also praised Afghanistan's Rashid Khan by saying that he is currently the best leg-spinner in the world and can spin the balls both ways.

KL Rahul performance in IPL

No one would have expected that the record of fastest fifty in IPL would be so easy to be broken. The Kings XI Punjab opener KL Rahul broke this record in the just second match of IPL 2018. He took 14 balls to score a blistering half-century against Delhi Daredevils in a run-chase. Before that, Sunil Narine playing for Kolkata Knight Riders took 15 shots against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2017 IPL season to score a fifty. In 2014 IPL season, Yusuf Pathan playing for Kolkata Knight Riders also took 15 shots to score a fifty against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Most of the IPL teams have played safe by choosing the same skipper for their teams, who have previously led them to IPL trophies. The IPL franchises have appointed their captains for this season. And the management has opted for their best player for the position. The common trait between Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni, David Warner, Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir, R Ashwin, Steve Smith and Rohit Sharma is that they all have performed exceptionally well and stood out from rest of the players in IPL and at international level.

Let us have a look at some captaincy records in IPL that few of the current captains have already achieved and few other must be aiming for this season. MS Dhoni has played 143 matches, most matches as a captain in IPL for Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiants. Out of which, his team won 83 games with win percent of 58.45.

Steve Smith has led Pune Warriors, Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiants in 24 matches. Smith side has won 16 games with a win percent of 66.66. Rohit Sharma has a winning percent of 60.66. He has led Mumbai Indians in 75 matches, and MI has won 49 matches and lost 29 in his leadership.

As a contributor in IPL, captain of RCB, Virat Kohli has scored 4418 runs in 141 innings with an average of 37.44. He has second most runs in the IPL followed by the captain of Mumbai Indians. Rohit Sharma has scored 4207 runs in 154 innings with an average of 32.61. David Warner, captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, is at fifth position. Warner has scored 4014 runs in 114 innings. He has a phenomenal average of 40.54 and batting strike rate of 142.13. MS Dhoni is also under top 10 lists of players having most runs in IPL career. He has scored 3561 runs in 143 innings with an average of 37.88.

Dinesh Karthik, captain of Kolkata Knight Riders has most 106 dismissals as a wicketkeeper in 136 IPL innings. Karthik is followed by MS Dhoni who has 102 dismissals in 152 matches. These captains are nonetheless in their fielding skills. Rohit Sharma has taken 71 catches so far and ranked third among the players with most catches in IPL. Virat Kohli has taken 60 catches, and he stands at number six followed by David Warner with 52 catches. In bowling, R Ashwin has taken 100 wickets in 108 innings with an economy of 6.54, and he has best bowling figure of 4/34.

MS Dhoni has led Chennai Super Kings to win two IPL trophies in 2010 and 2011. Rohit Sharma has led his team to three IPL titles - 2013, 2015, 2017. Warner has led Sunrisers Hyderabad to win their first IPL trophy in 2016. Gautam Gambhir, the current captain of Delhi Daredevils, has led Kolkata Knight Riders to win the 2012 and 2014 season of IPL.

Suresh Raina

Virat Kohli

The captain of Indian cricket team is a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore since the start of IPL, and he has played 149 matches in the tournament. By scoring 4418 runs with an average of 37.4, he ranked second in scoring most runs in IPL just behind Raina. It includes four century and 30 half-centuries with a strike rate of 129.8. He ranked sixth in taking most number of catches in IPL by taking 60 catches so far in the tournament.

M. S. Dhoni

The legendary Dhoni is also a part of Chennai Super Kings since the beginning of IPL and played for Rising Pune Supergiants when his team was suspended for a couple of years. The wicketkeeper-batsman has played 159 IPL matches and scored 3561 runs with an average of 37.9. It includes 17 half-centuries with a strike rate of 136.75. He ranked ninth in scoring most runs in IPL, which is a phenomenal achievement because he bats at lower order. All his other competitors are either opening batsman or bats at number 3 or 4. He is also second in taking most number of dismissals as a wicketkeeper in IPL, just behind Dinesh Karthik. He has taken 102 dismissals that include 72 catches and 30 stumps with a ratio of 0.67 dismissals per inning.

Lasith Malinga

The most difficult role in a Twenty20 match is of the bowlers who face the brunt of a hard-hitting batsman. The bowlers not just have to take quick wickets but they also have to maintain a decent economy at least under seven to give a match-winning performance. Malinga is the heart and soul of Mumbai Indians since IPL started. He joined IPL in 2009 and played 110 matches so far. He has taken 154 wickets, the most by any IPL bowler, much ahead of his competitors. Along with that, he so maintained an economy of 6.86 which is a good number considering the format of the tournament. There are also players like AB De Villiers, David Warner, Harbhajan Singh, Chris Gayle, Shikhar Dhawan, R. Ashwin and few others that have been exceptionally well in IPL. Rahul Chahar – IPL 2018 team and more info

The 18-year-old cricketer made his first-class debut for Rajasthan in 2016-17. Rahul Chahar played only one match and took two wickets in that match. Little did we know about him in 2017 until Rising Pune Super Giants bought him. Before that, Rahul Chahar made his List A debut but took just one wicket in his first match. However, he improved and took eight wickets in six List A games. Playing for RPS, Rahul Chahar bagged two wickets, that too of experienced players Hashim Amla and McCullum that caught people's attention.

The leg break spinner travelled with Indian U-19 team to England in August 2017. In England, he picked ten wickets in just four One-Day matches with best bowling figures of 4/63. In spite of his excellent performance, he wasn't selected to be a part of the U-19 World Cup team.

This year, Rahul Chahar played for Rajasthan in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the domestic T20 league and had shown potential at a young age. He impressed by taking six wickets in four games. The interesting fact is that in spite of having decidedly less domestic experience, he was in demand during the IPL auction 2018. In the auction, both Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals showed their interest in buying the leggie spinner. It was Mumbai Indians team that won the bid and bought Rahul Chahar for a whopping 1.9 crore.

The young spinner would have tremendous opportunity to play alongside big names in this year's IPL. During the IPL 2017 auctions, Rahul Tripathi made his debut in IPL when Rising Pune Supergiant bought him at a base price of Rs. 10 lakh. Shardul Thakur, The right arm medium pacer of Indian ODI cricket team was sold to Chennai Super Kings at the price of ₹2,60,00,000 in 2018 IPL auction. The Mumbai bowler had an initial base price of 75 lacs, and his bid increased to crores when four IPL teams showed interest in him during the Auction. These were Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders who were eager to buy the Indian cricketer.

He recently caught media attention when he was spotted at a Mumbai local train and was praised for his humble attitude. He has performed consistently well in domestic matches wherein 2012–13 Ranji season; he took 27 wickets at 26.25 from six games, with one five-wicket haul. In the 2013-14 Ranji season, he took 48 wickets at 20.81 from ten games with five five-wicket hauls. In 2015-16 Ranji Trophy final, he took eight wickets against the Saurashtra cricket team and led Mumbai cricket team to win its 41st Ranji Trophy title.

Shardul Thakur made his debut in India's limited-overs squad for the series against Sri Lanka in August 2017. He was a part of the recently concluded series against South Africa. Interesting fact - Shardul Thakur became the second player to wear the no 10 Jersey next to Sachin Tendulkar when he made his debut against Sri Lanka. The number 10 Jersey raised few controversies in social media as the number worn by a legend took over by a debutant. Due to this, he decided to change his jersey number to 54 after returning to India against New Zealand in the ODI series. Later in November, BCCI retired Sachin Tendulkar’s No. 10 jersey to avoid anyone wearing the same number again.

Washington Sundar – IPL 2018 team and more info

The 18-year-old Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar represented India in 2016 U-19 World Cup. He was unsold during the 2017 Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions. He made his debut in IPL when recruited as an injury replacement to R Ashwin.

Washington Sundar picked eight wickets in 11 matches with an average of 23.12 that he played for Rising Pune Supergiants last year. He also had a bowling economy of decent 6.16. In the qualifier match against Mumbai Indians, Sundar picked three wickets for just 16 runs with an economy of 4.0. It was nothing less than achievement when he pulled the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard and Ambati Rayudu at such a young age. The player of the match helped his side to reach the final.

After IPL, Washington Sundar performed well with both bat and ball in Tamil Nadu Premier League. Washington Sundar made his ODI debut last year after he was picked as a replacement for the injured Kedhar Jadhav. He played against Sri Lanka in the second ODI and took a wicket in 10 overs. Washington Sundar also made his T20 debut against Sri Lanka. He has so far played 26 matches picking 29 wickets with an economy of 6.30.
