Rashid Khan, the Afghanistan cricketer made his IPL debut in 2017 Indian Premier League for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He finished the tournament by becoming the sixth-highest wicket-taker and took 17 wickets from 14 matches. In January 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named him as the Associate Cricketer of the Year. This year in February, he became the youngest player to top the ICC Player Rankings for bowlers in ODIs. Along with this, he also topped the ICC Player Rankings for bowlers in T20Is.

During the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier, he captained Afghanistan for the first time in an ODI match. And he became the youngest player to captain an international side. Rashid Khan became the youngest bowler to take fastest 100 wickets in ODIs during the final of Cricket World Cup Qualifier against the West Indies. He accomplished this record by playing in just 44 matches to take his 100th dismissal and broke the previous record of 52 games, set by Mitchell Starc.

In IPL auction 2018, Sunrisers Hyderabad used right to match to retain Rashid Khan when he was sold to Kings XI Punjab at a price of nine crores. He has so far taken nine wickets in just seven IPL matches and ranked behind Trent Boult and Mayank Markande who have 11 and ten wickets respectively. In a Twenty20 format that is mainly dominated by hard-hitting batsmen, Rashid Khan has bowled 72 dot balls in 28 overs with an economy of 7.17.

Former Australian batsman Dean Jones has also praised Afghanistan's Rashid Khan by saying that he is currently the best leg-spinner in the world and can spin the balls both ways.

No one would have expected that the record of fastest fifty in IPL would be so easy to be broken. The Kings XI Punjab opener KL Rahul broke this record in the just second match of IPL 2018. He took 14 balls to score a blistering half-century against Delhi Daredevils in a run-chase. Before that, Sunil Narine playing for Kolkata Knight Riders took 15 shots against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2017 IPL season to score a fifty. In 2014 IPL season, Yusuf Pathan playing for Kolkata Knight Riders also took 15 shots to score a fifty against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

IPL 2018 Captains

The skippers of IPL (Indian Premier League) teams for 2018 season are announced.

Dinesh Karthik will lead the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018 season. He has been a part of IPL since 2008 and, he has played for Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Lions. This season will be his first with KKR.

Chennai Super Kings is making a comeback in this year IPL after being suspended from past two years. They retained MS Dhoni as their captain for 2018 IPL season who has been with the team since inception. In Dhoni's captaincy, CSK have won two trophies (2010 and 2011 season) and reached four finals.

Led by David Warner for the past three years, Sunrisers Hyderabad has retained their captain for 2018. Warner has been the star of the team ever since he joined SRH in 2014 and even helped his team to lift the IPL trophy in 2016 season.

Virat Kohli is playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore since the beginning of IPL and as a skipper; he led the team to its first IPL final in 2016 season. An exceptional batsman and captain Kohli is retained as the captain by RCB management for 2018 IPL season.

Gautam Gambhir was associated with Delhi Daredevils till 2010 IPL season, and then he joined Kolkata Knight Riders. He led IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders for seven years, and led them to win two IPL titles, in 2012 and 2014 season. He has been named as the skipper of Delhi Daredevils for the upcoming IPL season.

R Ashwin has been appointed as the captain of Kings XI Punjab IPL 2018 season. Shane Warne (Rajasthan Royals)

Rajasthan Royals have made a comeback in 2018 IPL after being suspended for couple of years and brought Shane Warne as their mentor. He played four IPL seasons from 2008 to 2011 with team as the captain and coach and he was highly successful throughout his career. His extra ordinary leadership skills helped his unpopular average team to finish the first edition of IPL as the winners.

Ricky Ponting (Delhi Daredevils)

Former Australian captain and three- time World Cup winner is appointed as the head coach of Delhi Daredevils franchise for this IPL season. He replaced Rahul Dravid who stepped down due to BCCI's conflict of interest policy. Ponting has previously coached Mumbai Indians for two seasons out of which they won the title in 2015.

Mahela Jayawardene (Mumbai Indians)

He became the head coach of Mumbai Indians last year and replaced Ricky Ponting. However, Mumbai Indians have multiple coaches in their team for every skill; Lasith Malinga along with Shane Bond as bowling coach, Robin Singh as bowling coach and newly appointed fielding coach James Pemment replacing Jonty Rhodes but the credit also goes to the head coach for winning the title last year.

Stephen Fleming (Chennai Super Kings)

He was a part of Chennai Super Kings in first IPL where the team became the runner up. He became the team coach in 2009 after retiring as a player. Under his leadership, CSK won the IPL title twice, both in 2010 and 2011 along with winning the Champions League T20 in 2010 and 2014. This year, CSK has appointed him as their head after coming back from two-year suspension. Along with Fleming, Michael Hussey is appointed as their batting coach. The equation between Dhoni and Fleming is quite good, as both the captain and coach are known for their cool-headed nature.

Brad Hodge (Kings XI Punjab)

This year, Kings XI Punjab appointed Hodge as their head coach and Virender Sehwag as Director - Cricket Operations and team mentor. From last two seasons, Hodge was previously the head coach of Gujarat Lions. Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad will be their bowling coach.

Jacques Kallis (Kolkata Knight Riders)

He was appointed as the head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders before the start of IPL 2016 season. He had been associated with the team after replacing previous head coach Trevor Bayliss. Kallis was also the batting consultant of KKR for 2015 IPL season. Previously, he also played an important role for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012 and made his team win the trophy by scoring 407 runs and taking 15 wickets.

Tom Moody (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

In the first two season of IPL, he coached Kings XI Punjab and joined Sunrisers Hyderabad as the coach in 2013. SRH finished in the top four that season. Under Moody's guidance, SRH won the IPL trophy in 2016 . In 2017, SRH reached to playoffs, but lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the eliminator. He has also coached Sri Lanka during the 2007 World Cup finals.

Daniel Vettori (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

RCB retained former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori as their head coach, who has been coaching RCB since 2014 IPL season. Along with him, Gary Kirsten has been appointed as the batting coach and Ashish Nehra as the bowling coach. Additionally, they both will also play the role of mentor for the team.

By scoring 4418 runs with an average of 37.4, he ranked second in scoring most runs in IPL just behind Raina. It includes four century and 30 half-centuries with a strike rate of 129.8. He ranked sixth in taking most number of catches in IPL by taking 60 catches so far in the tournament.

M. S. Dhoni

The legendary Dhoni is also a part of Chennai Super Kings since the beginning of IPL and played for Rising Pune Supergiants when his team was suspended for a couple of years. The wicketkeeper-batsman has played 159 IPL matches and scored 3561 runs with an average of 37.9. It includes 17 half-centuries with a strike rate of 136.75. He ranked ninth in scoring most runs in IPL, which is a phenomenal achievement because he bats at lower order. All his other competitors are either opening batsman or bats at number 3 or 4. He is also second in taking most number of dismissals as a wicketkeeper in IPL, just behind Dinesh Karthik. Lasith Malinga

The most difficult role in a Twenty20 match is of the bowlers who face the brunt of a hard-hitting batsman. Malinga is the heart and soul of Mumbai Indians since IPL started. He joined IPL in 2009 and played 110 matches so far. He has taken 154 wickets, the most by any IPL bowler, much ahead of his competitors. Rahul Chahar – IPL 2018 team and more info

The 18-year-old cricketer made his first-class debut for Rajasthan in 2016-17. Rahul Chahar played only one match and took two wickets in that match. Little did we know about him in 2017 until Rising Pune Super Giants bought him. Before that, Rahul Chahar made his List A debut but took just one wicket in his first match. However, he improved and took eight wickets in six List A games. Playing for RPS, Rahul Chahar bagged two wickets, that too of experienced players Hashim Amla and McCullum that caught people's attention.

The leg break spinner travelled with Indian U-19 team to England in August 2017. In England, he picked ten wickets in just four One-Day matches with best bowling figures of 4/63. In spite of his excellent performance, he wasn't selected to be a part of the U-19 World Cup team.

This year, Rahul Chahar played for Rajasthan in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the domestic T20 league and had shown potential at a young age. He impressed by taking six wickets in four games. Rahul Tripathi – IPL 2018 team and more info

During the IPL 2017 auctions, Rahul Tripathi made his debut in IPL when Rising Pune Supergiant bought him at a base price of Rs. 10 lakh. Shardul Thakur, The right arm medium pacer of Indian ODI cricket team was sold to Chennai Super Kings at the price of ₹2,60,00,000 in 2018 IPL auction. The Mumbai bowler had an initial base price of 75 lacs, and his bid increased to crores when four IPL teams showed interest in him during the Auction. These were Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders who were eager to buy the Indian cricketer.

He recently caught media attention when he was spotted at a Mumbai local train and was praised for his humble attitude. He has performed consistently well in domestic matches wherein 2012–13 Ranji season; he took 27 wickets at 26.25 from six games, with one five-wicket haul. In the 2013-14 Ranji season, he took 48 wickets at 20.81 from ten games with five five-wicket hauls. In 2015-16 Ranji Trophy final, he took eight wickets against the Saurashtra cricket team and led Mumbai cricket team to win its 41st Ranji Trophy title.

Interesting fact - Shardul Thakur became the second player to wear the no 10 Jersey next to Sachin Tendulkar when he made his debut against Sri Lanka. The number 10 Jersey raised few controversies in social media as the number worn by a legend took over by a debutant. Due to this, he decided to change his jersey number to 54 after returning to India against New Zealand in the ODI series. Later in November, BCCI retired Sachin Tendulkar’s No. 10 jersey to avoid anyone wearing the same number again.

Washington Sundar – IPL 2018 team and more info

The 18-year-old Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar represented India in 2016 U-19 World Cup. He was unsold during the 2017 Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions. He made his debut in IPL when recruited as an injury replacement to R Ashwin.

Washington Sundar picked eight wickets in 11 matches with an average of 23.12 that he played for Rising Pune Supergiants last year. He also had a bowling economy of decent 6.16. In the qualifier match against Mumbai Indians, Sundar picked three wickets for just 16 runs with an economy of 4.0. It was nothing less than achievement when he pulled the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard and Ambati Rayudu at such a young age. The player of the match helped his side to reach the final.

After IPL, Washington Sundar performed well with both bat and ball in Tamil Nadu Premier League. Washington Sundar made his ODI debut last year after he was picked as a replacement for the injured Kedhar Jadhav. He played against Sri Lanka in the second ODI and took a wicket in 10 overs.
