Heading into IPL 2021, Rajasthan Royals have made few shocking changes to their squad. They might be cursing themselves for releasing Ajinkya Rahane last season.

Right from the players to coaches, they are seeking a combination of both young and experienced teammates. The same thinking was reflected in their decision when they released the legendary Steve Smith and also, handed an important position to Kumar Sangakkara.

Analysis of released players from the squad:

1. Steve Smith

It has happened only for the 5th time that management decided to release their captain. To some extent, it was an expected and logical decision as Smith’s performance in Twenty20 on Asian Soil was not up to the mark. He started well in IPL 2020, but he turned down his fortunes by choosing to move down the order.

2. Tom Curran

This was a shocking decision as he was an ideal replacement of Ben Stokes (in case of his injury). Tom brings a lot of power down the order and also capable of completing his bowling quota of four overs.

3. Oshane Thomas

Oshane wasn’t given enough chances to play in IPL and might have done wonders for his team along with Jofra Archer.

4. Robin Uthappa

Traded to CSK this year; Royals didn’t provide him enough chances to build his confidence in IPL 2020. Rajasthan Royals traded him to Old Lions Club (CSK) where he might have to deliver under pressure for next two seasons to prove his capabilities.

Analysis of retained players in the squad:

  1. Jaydev Unadkat

Jaydev hasn’t proved himself worth the IPL money since multiple seasons and was one of the predicted players expected to be released. But the management thought the other way.

The management might have retained him by looking at his potential in domestic season. We are hopeful that this might be the season for Jaydev Unadkat.

  1. David Miller

Miller wasn’t given any chances in the last season. But this season, we might see David Miller as a permanent middle-order batsman. This year might be a do or die season for him in his IPL career.

Players to target in 2021 IPL Auction

Royals should be looking forward to target:

Indian Fast Bowlers:

  1. Umesh Yadav
  2. S. Sreesanth
  3. Lukman Meriwala

Foreign Fast Bowlers:

  1. James Pattinson
  2. Nathan Coulter Nile

Indian Batsmen:

  1. Karun Nair
  2. Siddhesh Lad

Foreign Batsmen:

  1.    Alex Carey

Indian All Rounders:

  1. Shivam Dube

Foreign All Rounders:

  1. Chris Morris
  2. Moeen Ali
  3. James Neesham
  4. Fabian Allen
  5. Glenn Maxwell

Royals would be glad if they manage to buy at least three players from the above lot. These players will add the required strength and depth to their depleted side.

Our Playing 11 with Retained Players:

 Manan Vohra

Jos Buttler

Sanju Samson

Ben Stokes

Riyan Parag

David Miller

Rahul Tewatia

Jofra Archer

Mayank Markande

Jaydev Unadkat

Kartik Tyagi

Rajasthan Royals, the winner of that era when teams were still figuring out the strategies and tactics to progress in the format of T20 cricket. During those days of T20 Cricket, a team having 160 runs to defend was considered as favourites. With the change in time, now the IPL teams are more developed and familiar with T20 format. During the time, there has also been a shift in fortune for Rajasthan Royals as well. From being the winner of season 1 to a team who finds it difficult to make into playoffs. Surely, there is something that went wrong especially with a settled team combination.

Let us get into the analysis of Rajasthan Royals and figure out the right team combination to survive the competition.

24. Ashton Turner

25. Riyan Parag

Assuming that all the above players are available for 1st Leg of Indian Premier League.

Rajasthan Royals will play four matches in the 1st leg of Indian Premier League. It will be hard for them to choose a team of 11 players out of 25 contenders. We will try to figure out the best 11 according to the playing conditions and recent form of the players.

10. Varun Aaron

11. Oshane Thomas (Foreign)

Notes:

-Use Oshane Thomas after 6 overs.

-Picked Oshane Thomas over Jofra Archer.

-No Steve Smith in team -Rahane at No 3 due to the top form of English openers.

-No Kulkarni as Jaydev is there for variations.

Recommended Team for Away games (Hyderabad)

Fresh Hyderabad wicket is expected to be in favor of bowlers with the ratio of 51:49

11. Jaydev Unadkat

Notes:

-Smith over Liam Livingstone because experience is given preference over aggression in these conditions.

-Jofra over Thomas because bowler having experience must be preferred on this wicket.

-Kulkarni preferred over Aaron.

Recommended Team for Away Game (Chennai)

As we are in Lions (MSD) Den we must be very careful with our tactics and strategies.

1. Ajinkya Rahane

2. Sanju Samson

5. Ben Stokes

6. Rahul Tripathi

7. Riyan Parag

8. Jofra Archer

11. Jaydev Unadkat

Notes:

-This combination is preferred as we need more depth in batting and bowling at Chepauk.

-Riyan Parag will play as an all-rounder.

-Sanju Samson to open due to his experience in Southern pitches.

Note: We would prefer Ish Sodhi over Oshane Thomas at home if it is an Afternoon game.

That is all. If you want to give any suggestions or share us your combination, please comment below. You can also reach at our Twitter handle to share your teams.

After losing three consecutive matches in IPL, Rajasthan Royals made three changes to bring back their team to winning track. Since the game against Kings XI Punjab was Rajasthan Royals last chance to stay in IPL tournament, they brought Ish Sodhi, leg-spinner from New Zealand by replacing Australian batsman D'Arcy Short.

Ish Sodhi who failed to attract any bids in IPL 2018 auction, was signed by Rajasthan Royals as an injury replacement to Afghanistan international Zahir Khan. Sodhi was picked up at his base price of INR 50 lakh. He reached the number one ranking for T20I bowlers in January 2018 and currently at number four position just after Rashid Khan, Shadab Khan and Yuzvendra Chahal.

On his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals, against Kings XI Punjab in Jaipur, Ish Sodhi impressed everyone with his phenomenal bowling. The Punjab bowlers failed to understand his bowling, and that was visible from the first ball that he delivered. In his four overs, he gave just 14 runs and took one wicket that brought Rajasthan Royals back on track after scoring a not-so-impressive 158 runs in their 20 overs.

Overall, Sodhi has picked up 102 wickets in 92 T20s at an average of 23.09 and economy of 7.66.

Do you love an IPL team because it has your favourite player in the team? Alternatively, is it because it has your favourite player as captain? Or is it because it has your favourite players as the coach? Do you support an IPL team because it belongs to your city? Or do you support a team because the owner of that team is your inspiration?

There could be so many other reasons for supporting the IPL team of your choice.

The cricket fans generally prefer a team that has strongest international players in their team. Some of them chose their team because of their national cricket team captains. Let us have a look at social media to understand which team has the most number of fans on the internet. This will also give an idea to find out the most popular IPL team.

On Facebook, the two times IPL champion, Kolkata Knight Riders page has the most number of likes with more than 16 million people following the team. The second in the list is Mumbai Indians with more than 12 million likes on Facebook. Though Mumbai Indians have one extra IPL trophy as compared to Kolkata Knight Riders, they are behind KKR regarding popularity on Facebook. One of the reasons behind their popularity might be because of superstar Shah Rukh Khan who is famous globally. The third and fourth teams concerning most numbers of Facebook likes are Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore with more than 11 million and 9 million fans respectively.

The situation is bit twisted when it comes to Twitter. Here, Mumbai Indians has 4.59 million followers and is ahead of Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders who have 3.86 million and 3.72 million followers on this social media platform.

On Instagram, Mumbai Indians is again ahead of all other teams. MI has 1.5 million followers followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore who has 1.4 million followers.

The interesting thing to note here is that Mumbai has an estimated population of 18.41 million people and it is least if compared to any other IPL playing states. Whether it is because of the strong players in the team or because of the most number of IPL trophies or because of the owners that have the most money, this team is certainly the most popular team.

Below is the table depicting the overall impact of IPL teams on different social media platforms.

In Dhoni's captaincy, CSK have won two trophies (2010 and 2011 season) and reached four finals.

Led by David Warner for the past three years, Sunrisers Hyderabad has retained their captain for 2018. Warner has been the star of the team ever since he joined SRH in 2014 and even helped his team to lift the IPL trophy in 2016 season.

Virat Kohli is playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore since the beginning of IPL and as a skipper; he led the team to its first IPL final in 2016 season. An exceptional batsman and captain Kohli is retained as the captain by RCB management for 2018 IPL season.

Gautam Gambhir was associated with Delhi Daredevils till 2010 IPL season, and then he joined Kolkata Knight Riders. He led IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders for seven years, and led them to win two IPL titles, in 2012 and 2014 season. He has been named as the skipper of Delhi Daredevils for the upcoming IPL season.

R Ashwin has been appointed as the captain of Kings XI Punjab IPL 2018 season. Ashwin will be the tenth player to captain KXIP after Glenn Maxwell, Murali Vijay, David Miller and George Bailey among those who have led the side. He played for Chennai Super Kings from 2009 to 2015 and helped the team to win two IPL titles, before spending the 2016 season with Rising Pune Supergiant.

After making a comeback in IPL this year, Rajasthan Royals retained only one player Steve Smith and announced him as the skipper for 2018 IPL season. Along with the captain, the team coach is equally responsible and crucial for the performance of a cricket team. The coach carves a winning path for the team and is equally involved with the captain in choosing the best eleven players for a match. Let us have a look at the coaches of the IPL 2018 teams and their hold on the teams.

Shane Warne (Rajasthan Royals)

Rajasthan Royals have made a comeback in 2018 IPL after being suspended for couple of years and brought Shane Warne as their mentor. He played four IPL seasons from 2008 to 2011 with team as the captain and coach and he was highly successful throughout his career. His extra ordinary leadership skills helped his unpopular average team to finish the first edition of IPL as the winners.

Ricky Ponting (Delhi Daredevils)

Former Australian captain and three- time World Cup winner is appointed as the head coach of Delhi Daredevils franchise for this IPL season. He replaced Rahul Dravid who stepped down due to BCCI's conflict of interest policy. Ponting has previously coached Mumbai Indians for two seasons out of which they won the title in 2015.

Mahela Jayawardene (Mumbai Indians)

He became the head coach of Mumbai Indians last year and replaced Ricky Ponting. However, Mumbai Indians have multiple coaches in their team for every skill; Lasith Malinga along with Shane Bond as bowling coach, Robin Singh as bowling coach and newly appointed fielding coach James Pemment replacing Jonty Rhodes but the credit also goes to the head coach for winning the title last year.

Stephen Fleming (Chennai Super Kings)

He was a part of Chennai Super Kings in first IPL where the team became the runner up. He became the team coach in 2009 after retiring as a player. Under his leadership, CSK won the IPL title twice, both in 2010 and 2011 along with winning the Champions League T20 in 2010 and 2014. This year, CSK has appointed him as their head after coming back from two-year suspension. Along with Fleming, Michael Hussey is appointed as their batting coach. The equation between Dhoni and Fleming is quite good, as both the captain and coach are known for their cool-headed nature.

Brad Hodge (Kings XI Punjab)

This year, Kings XI Punjab appointed Hodge as their head coach and Virender Sehwag as Director - Cricket Operations and team mentor. From last two seasons, Hodge was previously the head coach of Gujarat Lions. Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad will be their bowling coach.

Jacques Kallis (Kolkata Knight Riders)

He was appointed as the head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders before the start of IPL 2016 season. He had been associated with the team after replacing previous head coach Trevor Bayliss. Kallis was also the batting consultant of KKR for 2015 IPL season. Previously, he also played an important role for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012 and made his team win the trophy by scoring 407 runs and taking 15 wickets.

Tom Moody (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

In the first two season of IPL, he coached Kings XI Punjab and joined Sunrisers Hyderabad as the coach in 2013. SRH finished in the top four that season. Under Moody's guidance, SRH won the IPL trophy in 2016 . In 2017, SRH reached to playoffs, but lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the eliminator. He has also coached Sri Lanka during the 2007 World Cup finals.

Daniel Vettori (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

RCB retained former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori as their head coach, who has been coaching RCB since 2014 IPL season. Along with him, Gary Kirsten has been appointed as the batting coach and Ashish Nehra as the bowling coach. Additionally, they both will also play the role of mentor for the team.

During the IPL 2017 auctions, Rahul Tripathi made his debut in IPL when Rising Pune Supergiant bought him at a base price of Rs. 10 lakh. It was due to his performance that this year, the player has received a hike of 34 times than the last year. Rajasthan Royals fought with Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore, who were keen to buy the right-hand batsman in 2018 IPL auctions. At last, Rajasthan Royals bought Rahul Tripathi at a whopping price of Rs. 3.40 crores.

In IPL 2017, Rahul Tripathi scored 391 runs playing for RPS, with 17 sixes with a strike rate of 146.4 in 14 matches. He also scored his career-best knock of 93 runs in 52 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders that amazed the spectators. The opener was one of the top contributors and helped his team in reaching the finals of the tournament. His performance increased his value drastically in this year’s IPL auction.

Rahul Tripathi made his debut for Maharashtra in Ranji Trophy during 2012-13 Ranji season, and he wasn’t much impressed with his performance until 2016. It was only since he played in 2017 IPL and performed phenomenally well, he has shown consistency. In 2017 50 overs Vijay Hazare Trophy, he scored 157 runs in just three matches that he played, and it included a 74-ball 95 against Bengal in the quarterfinals. His batting average was 52.33 in the tournament. This year again in Vijay Hazare Trophy, Rahul Tripathi scored 250 runs in 7 matches with a batting average of 41.66, that includes 25 fours and six sixes.
